She was predeceased by: her parents, Charlie J. Wiggins and Mary Edwin Gaskins Wiggins; and her husband Lt. Rudolph Melvin Dempsey. She is survived by: her daughters, Patricia Smith Tully and Pamela Simpson (David Simpson); her grandchildren, Jeffrey Smith (Pritee), Meredith Smith Brotherson (Brian), David Smith (Rachael), Tyler Simpson (Stacie), Lauren Simpson Good (Dave) and Christopher Simpson (Jenny); her sister Cleo Smith; and her daughter Mary Conquest. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and her special friend.
