It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Dennis Smith of Greenville, South Carolina, born in Portland, Oregon, who passed away on February 2, 2025, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, William Smith and Victoria Smith (Landry); his brothers, Michael and Charles (Valerie); and his pet Scorpio.
He is survived by: his wife Dr. Sharon Kelly W. Smith; his children, Chamara Smith, Richella Smith (Washington) of Seattle and William Michael Johnson (Arizona) of Phoenix; and his sisters, Barbara Smith and Gloria Smith of Portland. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Viewing was held on Saturday, February 8th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM and on Friday, February 14th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 at 11:00 AM and at 12:00 PM at the Community Baptist Church (103 Burton St, Asheville, NC 28806). A burial was held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 at the Violet Hill Cemetery (45 Hazel Mill Rd, Asheville, NC 28806).
