She was predeceased by: her husband Forest O. Dowens, Jr.; and her siblings, Margaret Walker, Emma Eichelberger (Toy), Rosa Bell Samuels, Howard Williams and Curtis Williams, Sr. (Mary).

She is survived by: her great-nephew Gustavious P. Samuel, Sr. (Rebecca); her daughter JoAnn Rainey; and her sister Patricia Ann Alexander.
