He was predeceased by: his parents, John Leonard, Sr. and Edith Scott Mayes. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Ann Gibson Mayes; his children, Delano L. Mayes (Darleen) of Simpsonville, SC and Chonda Mayes Harris of Simpsonville, SC; his siblings, Julia L. Mayes of Greenville, SC, Gail Shell (Anthony) of Mauldin, SC, Teresa Harris of Greenville, SC, Ronald "Ronnie" Mayes (Joannette) of Greenville, SC, Delphine Lagroon (Anthony) of Columbia, SC and Tammy McKinney (Allen) of Simpsonville, SC; and his grandchildren, Te'Joria Mayes, DreQuez Mayes, Demetrius Harris and Carmen Harris. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
