He was predeceased by: his brother Wallis M. Carson; his son John Adams Carson, III; and his granddaughter Janie Grace Moore. He is survived by: his wife Jane (John); his children, James Fletcher Carson of Budapest, Hungary and Julie Carson Bayne of Travelers Rest; his grandchildren, Sara Carson Moore, John Adams Carson, IV (Tamora), Joshua James Carson, Grace Anne Elizabeth Bayne and Todd Eric Bayne, Jr.; and his great grandchildren, Elijah Michael Moore, Patsy Kay Carson, Jenna Lynn Carson and Huxley Gray Riddley. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
