He is survived by: his wife Betty B. Potts of Greenville, SC; his children, James Rhoten, Jr. (Donna), Jerry Potts, Jr. (Rhonda), Jeff Potts (Robin) and Kathy Reeder; and his brother Alan Potts. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
