He was predeceased by : his wife Joyce Blair Burgess; his parents, Bertha Mae Davis Burgess and James Lawrence Burgess, Sr.; and his brothers, James Lawrence Burgess, Jr., Benjamin Broadus Burgess, Carl Edward Burgess and Ronald Ray Burgess (Mattie Lee Burgess).
He is survived by : his children, Gary Burgess (Kristen) of Greenville, SC, Darren Burgess of Austin, TX and Erin Oliver (Chris) of Simpsonville, SC; and his grandchildren, Cayce Burgess, Carey Burgess, Ellison Oliver, Aiden Oliver, Jeremy Burgess and Nathan Burgess.
