He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert J. Thackston and Lillie Mae McCauley Thackston; his wife Ruth Bryson Thackston; his daughter Elizabeth "Betty" McMullan; and his siblings, Maxine Harden Cartee, Gwen Jameson, Eunice Gilbert, William and Leonard Thackston.
He is survived by: his daughter Barbara-Ruth Thackston Gross; his grandson Jason McMullan (Kate); and his great grandchildren, Ori and Thackston McMullan.
