It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Valarie Guthrie Kent of Greeleyville, South Carolina, born in Nashville, Georgia, who passed away on August 6, 2022, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Pheriba Ford and James Lester "Jimmie" Guthrie; her son Larry Johnnie Kent; and her siblings, John Bremon Guthrie, James Levi Guthrie, Sr., William Ottis Guthrie, Rev. Warner Guthrie, Eugene Sirmans and Betty Ruth Bennett.
She is survived by: her husband Johnnie M Kent, Jr. (J. M.) of Lakeland, Georgia; her daughters, Brenda Bassin (Dennis) of Greeleyville, Barbara Miller (Melvin, Jr) of Greelevyille and Pam Eaddy (Wade) of Sanford; her daughter-in-law Debbie Kent of Lakeland, Georgia; her siblings, Vernon Guthrie of Nashville Georgia, Hugh Guthrie of Lake Park, Georgia and Natalie Bargus of Nashville, Georgia; and her grandchildren, Eric Kent (Stephanie), David Kent, Carol Britt (Gerald), Gary Barfield (Jeana), Kent Barfield (Brooke), Johnnie Barfield (Lisa), Bill Miller (Kim), Chip Miller (Melissa), Jason Eaddy (Tessa), Taylor Eaddy (Casie), Sarah Britton (Ashley) and Margrethe Bassin. She is also survived by 21 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Valarie was a pianist at her church for many years, loved flowers and enjoyed making flower arrangements and donated many arrangements to the schools.
