He was predeceased by: his wife Esther Burckhalter Melton; his daughter Iris Melton Franklin; his parents, Jesse T. and Jewel Thomas Melton; and his brothers, Lenwood Melton and William Melton.
He is survived by: his sons, Earl Melton (Martha) and Jeffrey A. Melton (Kari Frederickson); his sister Sylvia Bryant (Ronnie); his grandchildren, Monica Petersen (Steven), Candis Moyer (Jeremy), Melany Franklin (Justin Keith), Olivia Melton and Rebecca Melton; and his great grandchildren, Cole Petersen, Trent Petersen, Ava Moyer, Lola Moyer and Elaina Moyer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Graniteville, SC.
