He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Vance Cooke and Louisa Medrano. He is survived by: his daughter Melanie Cook-Guerrero (Alex); his grandchildren, Brielle and Alec Avila; his daughter Tina Cooke; his siblings, Dan Curtin III (Dianne), Vance Cooke and Jessie Gilmore (Colleen); and his nieces and nephews, Kerri Shatkin (Greg), Kathleen Nichols, Dan Curtin IV, Savannah Cooke, Dalton Cooke, Levi Cooke and Charleston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dean's memory may be sent to Woundedwarriorproject.org.

“We are so sorry to hear of Dean´s passing. We are honored to have him as a friend and enjoyed the chats on the phone, always a man of interest with a kind and generous heart. I will miss speaking with him or having a impromptu visit. We are fortunate to have one of his Bichon pups and she is a beautiful representation of his dedication to this breed for many decades.
