He is survived by: his wife Jean Benford of Pawleys Island; his children, Brian Benford (Cheryl) of Wilmington, Kim Dunn (Brad) of Georgetown and John Benford, Jr. (Ashley) of Georgetown; his grandchildren, Bella Benford, Chase Benford, Jack Benford, Anna Dunn, Ava Dunn, Elle Moody, John "Trey" Benford, III and Scottie Benford; his siblings, Henry "Buddy" Benford of Andrews, Jenelle Nelson of Elgin, Clara Rutland of Covington, LA, Carolyn Wieteler (Leo) and Margaret Green of Elgin; and his pet Hagley. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Samaritan's Purse or Alzheimer's Foundation.
