He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar James Avant and Jessie Lee Thompkins Avant; his siblings, Odell Avant, Jimmy Avant (Linda), Mary Lee Scurry (Kenny) and Penny Avant; and his sister-in-law Eulene Avant.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Lee "Patty" Sikes Avant; his children, Shane Avant (Carrie) and Jamie Avant (GiGi); his grandchildren, Tori Avant (Chaz Venezia), Luke Avant (Sidney Supina), Allie Lathan (Hunter) and Brooks Avant; his great grandchild Ocean Lathan; his siblings, Sue Garrison (Bobby), Harvey Avant and Violet Infinger (Tony); and his sister-in-law Frances Avant.
