He was predeceased by: his former wife Patricia Sue Wiles Spires; his parents, James E. Spires and Mildred Varnes; his grandson Austin Cody Spires; and his brother Dwaine Spires.

He is survived by: his sons, Rodie (Theresa), Lee (Carol), Ricky and Alton; and his wife Francine R. Spires. He is also survived by 29 Grandchildren; and 24 Great-Grandchildren.
