He was predeceased by: his spouse Andrea Grigg Mathis; his parents, Carl R. Mathis and Ara Cook Mathis; and his brother Cecil Mathis. He is survived by: his brother Gary Mathis of Gaffney; his siblings-in-law, Thomas Grigg (Jane) of Myrtle Beach, Ann Mathis-Dixon of Gaffney, Darlene Babcock (Bill) of Gaffney and Janice Ford of Summerville; and his nieces and nephews, Matthew Mathis, Michael Mathis, Marcus Mathis, Lucas Mathis, John Babcock, Joel Babcock, Russell Grigg, Kristin Golden, Sydney Ford and Sarah Grigg.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 13th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Goucher Baptist Church (415 State Rd S-11-584, Gaffney, SC 29340). A funeral service was held on Monday, January 13th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
