He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie James Thackston and Martha Lois Vaughn Thackston; and his siblings, William "Billy" Thackston and Susie Reynolds. He is survived by: his wife Catherine Denise Thackston; his children, Josh Thackston and Carrie Ann Thackston; and his siblings, Ann Pearson and Danny Thackston.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 15th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Bethany Baptist Church (140 Bethany Baptist Dr, Fountain Inn, SC 29644). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 15th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, January 15th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery (140 Bethany Baptist Dr, Fountain Inn, SC 29644).
