He was predeceased by: his parents, Perry Shell and Lena Thomason; his adoptive mother Laura Mae Shell; and his siblings, James Edward Thomason, Howard Griffin, Albert Shell and Christine Johnson.
He is survived by: his wife Lisa Sullivan Shell; his children, Calvin Shell, Tisa Johnson (Garry), Marlishia Shell and Monisa Shell; his grandchildren, Tania Johnson, Malik Johnson, Sean Johnson, Tamia Johnson, Kaden Shell and William Sullivan; and his siblings, Eugene Thomason (Vanessa), David Griffin, Michael Thomason, Irene Griffin, Cynthia Sligh (John), Willie Ruth Thomason and Melissa Griffin.
