He was predeceased by: his parents, Carolyn Smith Thompson and Robert Davis Thompson, Sr.; and his wife Patsy Hudson Thompson. He is survived by: his daughters, Paige Andrews (Doug), Dawn Thompson (Drew Maykuth) and Heidi Gilmore; his grandchildren, Grant Andrews and Lauren Davis; his siblings, Carol Power (Tracy) and Mel Thompson (Sherry); his niece Julia Thompson; his nephews, Jake Thompson (Emily), Jason Thompson and Justin Kirby; and his close friend Audrey Minck.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 2nd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Cain Calcutt Funeral Home (512 2nd Loop Rd, Florence, SC 29505). A graveside service was held on Wednesday, April 2nd 2025 at 11:30 AM at the Florence Memorial Gardens (3320 S Cashua Dr, Florence, SC 29501).
