He was predeceased by: his parents, Vada Skipper Coates and Daniel Paul Coates, Sr.; and his son Paul Keith Coates. He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Ann Coates; his children, James Daniel Coates (Dianne), Leroy Coates, Jr., Maria Lynn Smith (Wayne) and Ashley Vada Renee Coates; his siblings, Gene Coates (Susan) and Barbara Webster (Tommy); his close friends, Dyson, Bo, Maxie, Wanda and Tony; and his pets, Sweet Pea and Brody.
