He is survived by: his wife Mary Lynn Smith McDonald; his daughter Mary Leigh McDonald Poole (Yancey E. Poole III); his stepson Robert Gary Blackman; his grandchildren, Sebastian Caleb Poole, Amelia Marie Poole, Meredith Blackman and Cooper Blackman; his sister Patricia McDonald Atkinson; his nephew Bradford Scott "Brad" Atkinson (Kelly Atkinson); and his great-nephews, Braeden Scott Atkinson and Jacob Evan Atkinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
