He is survived by: his children, Angie Barry (Larry), Willie Thurman (Lynette) and Jadine Hampton (Will); his sister Breanna "Brenda" Brooks; his sisters-in-law, Mary Harmon, Lucy Lester, Patricia Matthews (Horace), Pamela Lester and Virlin Lester; his grandchildren, Terri Arcelia, Kerri Bryant, Caleb May, Larenz Thurman, Dr. Sydni Hampton, Noura Bennett, John Myles Hampton, Howie Smith and Hassan Smith; his godchildren, Monisha "Nikki" James, Brandon Boxley, Precious Mattison, Chyance Mattison, Eddie Mattison and Booker T. Mattison; his great grandchildren, Hakim, Kennedy and Jamie; his nieces, Rev. Rubenia "Nisey" Lister Felton, Pamela Lister Bright and Brenona Brooks; his nephew Dexter Bryant Lister; his cousin Ernest Boyd Sr.; his friend Bertrand Mattison; and also, Stacy Bennett and Isaac Lister Jr..
Viewing was held on Friday, January 10th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Mitchell Funeral Care and Cremations (609 Hull Dr, Elizabeth City, NC 27909). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 11th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the St. Stephen Misisonary Baptist Church (506 York St, Elizabeth City, NC 27909).
