He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, George Robert Dawson, Jr. and Ada Gilchrist Dawson; his spouse Ingrid Eriks Dawson; his children, Stephanie Dawson Jordan (Robert), George Robert Dawson IV (Leigh), Emily Ingrid Dawson Myers (Eric) and Kristina Dawson Snipes (David); his grandchildren, Elisabeth Hamilton Jordan, Robert Dawson Jordan, Charles "Charlie" Hope Jordan, Anna Holland Dawson, George Robert Dawson V, Sarah Helen Dawson, Jackson Eric Myers, Dawson Michael Myers and Katherine "Kate" Ann Snipes; and his siblings, Ada Muriel Nepveux (Felix), Alfred Gilchrist Dawson (Carol) and Elizabeth Dawson Griffin (Thomas). He was also cherished by his wife and children; teaching his seventeen nieces and nephews, and sparking joy in his nine grandchildren.
