He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnnie Miles Sturgeon and Sally Owens Sturgeon; his brother Stewart "Buzzy" Sturgeon; his brother-in-law Jesse Cartrette, Sr.; and his brother Jimmy Sturgeon.

He is survived by: his siblings, Gail Sturgeon Cartrette, Billy Sturgeon, Jean Sturgeon Cook, Scott Sturgeon and Joey Sturgeon. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
