He was predeceased by: his wife Helen Holcombe Chasteen; his parents, James Chasteen, and Cora Pitts Chasteen, Sr.; his son Lonnie W. Chasteen; and his siblings, Katie Marie Chasteen, Wayne Brooks, Swonnie Chasteen and Rudolph Chasteen.
He is survived by: his daughter Cynthia Pauline Culbreth; his grandchildren, James J Harden III (Jennifer), Heather S Harden, Clint Chasteen and Paul J Chasteen (Helena); his great grandchildren, Paulina Harden, Avery Harden, Noah Harden, Gage Harden, Mikalah Hall and Chloe Hall; and his siblings, Viola Yaden, Robert Chasteen and Roy Lee Chasteen.
Visitation was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Rock Hill Baptist Church (450 Rock Hill Rd, Fair Play, SC 29643). A graveside service was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
