He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Manley and Annie Jo Wardell Laurence; his sons, John David Laurence and James Rufus "Jimmy" Laurence II; his brother Ronald L. Laurence; and his grandson Kristopher Laurence.
He is survived by: his wife Dianne Fulmer Laurence; his sons, Charles Stevens Laurence (Shannon) of Mayo and Joel King Laurence (Teri) of Aiken; his stepson William Reynolds of Camden; and his grandchildren, Sarah and Sydnie.
