He was predeceased by: his parents, John Simmons and Anna Liza Rivers Simmons of St. George; and his close friend Vernelle Hazel of Springfield, GA.. He is survived by: his siblings, Johnnie Mae Simmons, Ben Jr. and Plent; his daughters, Betty Simmons of Santee, SC. and Kimberly Simmons of Guyton, GA.; his stepdaughter Cheryl Hazel of Walterboro, SC.; his son Joseph Simmons Jr. of St. George; his stepson Anthony Hazel (Lillie) of Kingstree; and his brothers, Herbert Simmons, Leroy Simmons, Allen Simmons (Marie) of St. George and Adolph Simmons (Louise) of Newark, NJ.. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
