It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Lonnie Carter of Effingham, South Carolina, born in Dillon, South Carolina, who passed away on September 23, 2023, at the age of 73, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lonnie Carter and Beulah Daniels Carter; and his brother-in-law Perry Herring. He is survived by: his wife Cherry Leach Carter; his sons, Brooks Carter (Heather) and Jason Carter; his stepsons, Chad Kale (Janet), Jason Kale (Jennifer Davis) and John Kale (Melissa); his grandchildren, Brenner Kale, Patrick Kale, Jared Kale, Morgan Carter, Ashlyn Carter and Lindsey Kale; and his siblings, Jean Herring, Lib Rowell (John) and Earl Carter (Anita).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
