He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Henry McKie, Sr. and Eugenia Brunson McKie; his sisters, Mary Alleen Slade and Mildred McKie Morgan; and his grandson Tucker Durham.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia Thomas McKie; his daughters, Debbie Durham (Ken) of Edgefield, Barbara McKie Inabinet (Buddy) of Sullivan's Island and Laura Jolly (Rankin) of Aiken; his grandchildren, Casey Barrow (Otis) of Amy Durham, C. R, Manse Jolly (Jordan), Lee Jolly and Bob; his great grandchildren, Crayton, Kylie, Gunner, Silas, Zoey and Asher; and his caregivers, Annette, Travis, Elaine, Jet, Brenda, Paulette, Bertha, Mary and Denise.
