She was predeceased by: her parents, H. C. Shirley and Ellen Tate Shirley; and her brother Hugh Shirley. She is survived by: her husband George; her children, Mary Ellen Whelchel, Mark Whelchel of Liberty, Joe Whelchel (Allison) of Easley and Scott Whelchel (Dana) of Liberty; her grandchildren, Kristin Howard (Dylan), Cam, Seth, Nora, James, Sarah Grace and Eli Whelchel; and her great grandchild Finley Howard.
