She was predeceased by: her parents, Alton Carter and Jewell Carter Riggs; her husband Alvin A. Barger; and her sisters, Sibyl Carter Rafsky and Clarice Carter Shugart.
She is survived by: her daughters, Dionne Barger Merritt (J. B.) of Piedmont, SC and Vickie A. Barger of Easley, SC; her granddaughters, Mary Ann Merritt, Jane Barger Merritt and Susan Merritt Howard (Billy); her great grandchildren, Isaiah Howard and Chloe Howard; and her siblings-in-law, Lynn Gobble and Patsy Barger. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
