He was predeceased by: his parents, Garnet Wade Derrick, Sr. and Ressie Mae Adams Derrick; his siblings, Leon Derrick, Bonnie Holden, Elizabeth Turpin of Jane Crenshaw, G. W., Derrick, Jr., Floyd Derrick, Margaret "Tootsie" Watson, Marion Derrick and Claude Derrick; and his son-in-law Tommy Cox.
He is survived by: his wife Louise Trotter Derrick; his children, Sherri Derrick Cox of Liberty, Sheila Derrick Gilpin (Everett) of Easley and John Preston Derrick, Jr. of Liberty; his grandchildren, Brandi Cox Riddle (Chris Linville), Brett Robert Cox and Graysen Trent Gilpin (Ashton); and his great grandchildren, Brayson Riddle and Tyler Riddle.
