He was predeceased by: his parents, Raleigh Alexander and Mary Adaline Swafford Speed; and his siblings, Lloyd Speed, Arthur Speed, Harmon Speed, Norman Speed, Lois Robinson, Brenda Smith and Deborah Williams.
He is survived by: his wife Kitty Tripp Speed; his children, Vicki Gaines (Joe) of Athens, GA and Edward A. "Eddie" Speed, Jr. (Kathy) of Columbia, SC; his grandchildren, Lindsey Nichols (Matt), Joshua Speed (Olivia Cain), Joseph Gaines, Houston Gaines and Adrianne Beacham (Matt); and his great grandchildren, Hannah Nichols, Hailey Nichols and Jackson Beacham.
