He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Simpson and Virlie Vaughan Holmes; and his wife Judith Bowen Holmes. He is survived by: his children, Charlotte Murray (David), Paul Joseph Holmes, Julie Ann Carter (David), Alan Thomas (Tracey Ayer) and Joseph Simpson (Michelle Lott).
Visitation was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, Hampton Chapel (300 Mulberry St W, Hampton, SC 29924). A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Sand Hill Baptist Church (15480 Pocotaligo Rd, Varnville, SC 29944).
