He was predeceased by: his parents, James Lester Smith, Sr. and Nella Smith Smith; his son Dean Smith; his granddaughter Crystal Shiner; and his sisters, Barbara Kennedy, Nell Mixson and Deloris Ingold.
He is survived by: his wife Hazel Campbell Smith; his daughters, Belinda Smith of Early Branch, Arlene Simmons of Varnville and Sarah Shiner of Seabrook; his grandchildren, Tammy Lewis (Ricky), Shannon Hutto-Altman, Brandy Conrady (Michael), Scotty Shiner (Jolene), Will Hutto (Kim), Christopher Shiner, Nancy DeLoach, Amber Smith and Caitlin Simmons; his great grandchildren, Katelyn, Bryce, Julia, Sean, Matthew, Caroline, Dawson, Leslie, Jackson, Saige and Blaitnee; his great great grandchildren, Mattelyn, Riggin and Bridlen; and his siblings, Legrand Smith, Gerald Smith, Gail Henry and Judy Whitely.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home (300 Mulberry St W, Hampton, SC 29924). A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 24th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Mr. Smith's honor be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
