He was predeceased by: his parents, James "Dude" Helms and Cora Mitchem Helms; his wife Mary Frances Helms; his daughter Evonne McHall; his siblings, Janey Helms, Mae Smith, David Helms, Willard Helms and Bobby Helms; and his great grandchild Sebastian Helms.
He is survived by: his children, Robert "Robbie" Helms, Jr. of Moore, James Helms (Brandy) of Moore, Angie Blackwell of Pacolet, Sheila Haug (Larry) of Ware Shoals and Nina Myers of Beauford, NC; and his sister Betty Blackwell (Jesse) of Spartanburg. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren.
