He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie Willis Smathers and Louella Sanford Smathers; and his siblings, Willie Roe Smathers, Ruby Devlin and Loujenna Smather.
He is survived by: his wife Brenda Moss Smathers; his son Michael Willis Smathers (Jenny) of Startex; his sisters, Mildred Webb and Juanita Pinkerton; his grandchildren, Holly Smathers, Danielle Olson, Charles Gaddis and Joy Owens; and his son Douglas Henderson. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
