He was predeceased by: his parents, George Nelson Sr. and Mary Bell Hunter Coone; and his brother Andy Coone. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Roberson Coone; his daughter Andrea Sprague (Brandon); his brother Joe Coone, Sr. (Dottie); his nephew Joe Coone, Jr.; and his friend Reggie Reynolds.
