He was predeceased by: his parents, James M. Kirkpatrick and Frances Elizabeth Poore Kirkpatrick; his son James Paul Kirkpatrick; and his brothers, John T. Kirkpatrick and James "Jimmy" Kirkpatrick.

He is survived by: his wife Paullet Thompson Kirkpatrick of Kirkpatrick Road; his daughter Kristy Landmesser (Jason) of Greenwood; his sisters, Marian Eleazer of Irmo and Margaret Wilbanks of Greenwood; and his granddaughter Zaylee Landmesser. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
