He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Rakestraw and Ethel Foster Rakestraw; his wife Irene "Abe" Wingate Rakestraw; his children, George "Duck" Wingate and Ruby Lee Wingate Coe; and his siblings, Carrie, George, Eugene, Joe, Leola, Sarah, Louise and Grace.
He is survived by: his children, Leola Rakestraw Moses, Regina Rakestraw, Veronica Rakestraw Ings, Pamela Rakestraw, Roosevelt Davis (Betty), Glenda Holmes (Laverne) and Roberta Wingate. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
