He was predeceased by: his parents, Harley Derry and Rena Poole Derry; and his siblings, Elnora Gandy, Ollie Bell Antrum, James Blake, Sr. and James "Booster" Derry.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Derry; his children, Carolyn Pearson, Heyward Derry Jr. (LaTasha), Reginald Fitzgerald Derry (Sabrina) and Corey Derry (Evelyn); his grandchildren, Robert Nathaniel Pearson (Nichole), Eric Brandon Pearson (India), Anja Re'gine Derry, Harlan Brooks Derry, Kaya Simone Derry and Koven John Derry; his great grandchildren, Damien Eric Pearson and Jazmine Imani Pearson; his brother Clifton Derry (Marie) of Darlington, SC; and his brothers-in-law, Roosevelt Rubin and Bobby Poole (Willie Ann). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
