He was predeceased by: his parents, Archie Shaw Dargan, Jr. and Caroline Sligh Dargan; his father-in-law Dallas Norman Fields; and his sister-in-law Joyce Chestnut Dargan. He is survived by: his wife Linda Fields Dargan; his children, Nichole Dargan Ambos (Harold Carter Ambos), Caroline Shorey Dargan Egan (David Anthony Egan) and Archie Shaw Dargan, IV; his granddaughter Caroline Shaw Ambos; his siblings, Waldeck Sligh Dargan (Carolyn Dargan), Caroline Douglas MacKorell (John Davidson MacKorell), Louisa Dargan Harris (Claude O'Briant Harris, III) and Melissa Dargan Hufhand (Brian Lee Hufhand); and his mother-in-law Merle Threlkeld Fields. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
