He was predeceased by: his parents, James P. Matthews and Rosie Parrott Matthews; his daughter Brenda Lynch; and his brother Delbert "Hank" Matthews. He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Locklair Matthews; his children, Jimmy "Bird Dog" Matthews (Vivian) of Coward, William "Dillon" Matthews (Valarie) of Coward, Debbie Springs (Ernest Davis) of Coward and Melisa Whittington (Allen) of Florence; and his son-in-law George Lynch of Coward.
