He was predeceased by: his parents, Alva Smith and Laura Trusdale Smith; his wife Hazel Tedder Smith of Virginia; his son Timothy Wayne Smith; and his brother Ralph Wayne Smith.
He is survived by: his son John M. Smith (Dottie); his grandchildren, John Ashley Smith (Jessica), Dustin Smith (Elizabeth), Philip Smith, Whitney Smith and Faith Smith; and his siblings, Thelma Coward and William T. Smith.
