He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Bryan Hughes and Lillian Rhodes Hughes. He is survived by: his wife Marcia Whetstone Hughes; his daughters, Bonnye Peebles (Bruce) of Myrtle Beach, S. C. and Carla Fallaw (Brett) of Mt. Pleasant, S. C.; his grandchildren, Ashley Axson, Courtney Peebles, Blake Fallaw and Collin Fallaw; his great grandchildren, Bryan Axson and Danyelle Axson; and his sister Rose Marie O'Cain. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.
