He was predeceased by: his parents, Buck Alton Payton and Pearl Dutton Payton; his siblings, Lettie, Ethly, Evelyn, Bobbie Ruth, Alton Payton and Carl Edward Payton; and his brothers-in-law, William "Bobby" Wood and W. R. Sanders.
He is survived by: his spouse Shirley "Bunny" Wood Payton; his son Kenny Payton of Cope; his sister Gail Gossnell of Chesnee, SC; his grandson Kaleb Buck Payton of Springfield, MO; his great grandchild Ivy Diana Payton; and his sisters-in-law, Betty Sanders of Williston, Cathy Lovern (Robert), Sylvia Wood and Dale Sanders (Dean). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
