Mary Ellen Flanagan Merritt Obituary
Mary Ellen Merritt, daughter of the late-Josephine (Jo) Flanagan and beloved & devoted wife of Mitchell Merritt, crossed over to the heavenly world on October 6, 2024.
Along with her mother, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her dearest Aunt Lila & Uncle Bernie Flanagan.
In addition to her husband of nearly 50-years, she is survived by her three children; Meredith (Karl), Bernie (Julie), and Marshall (Keira), her "adopted daughter" Melissa (Eric) Burgess, four loving grandchildren; Mackenzie, Ethan, Henry, and Isla, as well as her brother Michael (Paula) Flanagan.
Mary Ellen is also survived by her "Uncle" Grady (Adell) Richardson, who perpetuated her deep love of all things Raggedy Ann and Andy.
Along with watching after the "Raggedies," Mary Ellen was forever taking care of three rambunctious kids and their dad. She was a wonderful cook, making homemade waffles (supposedly taught to her by Mitchell), fried green tomatoes, & fried chicken as her specialties. However, she was truly an avid baker known for her chocolate chip cookie recipe, which never quite yielded the intended amount with three hungry kids eating most (all?) of the dough before the oven was even hot.
The family will receive guests from 1:00p-2:00p on October 10, 2024 at Hillcrest Cemetery & Chapel, 1000 Highway SC-544, Conway, South Carolina, 29526, with a brief service to follow in the Mausoleum Chapel.
The family would also like to extend their sincerest & warmest thanks & gratitude to all of the Nurses, Support Staff, and Administration at CMC Embrace Hospice House for the loving & tender care they gave Mary Ellen over the last several weeks.
