He was predeceased by: his parents, Edison Smith and Mageline Harding Smith; and his brothers, James Smith and Richard Smith. He is survived by: his children, Tammy Smith, Gene Merritt and David Merritt; the mother of his children Mary Frances Smith; and his siblings, Heyward Smith (Bonnie), Bill Smith (Gwen), Randall Smith (Rachael), Clinton Smith (Betty) and Brittie Turner (Frank). He is also survived by great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.
