He was predeceased by: his parents, John Anderson and Evelyn Haltiwanger Wells; his brothers, Ames Haltiwanger Wells and John Anderson Wells; and his cousin Mitchell Ewart Wells.
He is survived by: his wife Charlene Seigler Wells; his children, William "Billy" Buist Wells Jr. and DuPre "Dede" Wells Mitchell (Steve); and his grandsons, Stephen Carrington Mitchell Jr. (Samantha), Edward Buist Mitchell and George Wells Mitchell.
