With solemn reverence, we commemorate Senator Kay Patterson (Columbia, South Carolina), born in Darlington, South Carolina, whose life came to an end on December 13, 2024 at the age of 93, leaving behind cherished memories. Though Senator Kay may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Senator Kay touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was predeceased by: his parents, James Patterson and Leila Prince Patterson; his grandmothers, Meta B. Patterson and Emma Joseph; and his son Eric.
He is survived by: his spouse Jean James of Pinewood, SC.; and his daughter Pamela.
Viewing was held on Thursday, December 19th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Palmer Memorial Chapel - Columbia (1200 Fontaine Pl, Columbia, SC 29223). A funeral service was held on Thursday, December 19th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Friday, December 20th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Senator K. Patterson Scholarship Fund at Allen University and/or South Carolina State University in honor of his lifelong commitment to education.
