Nellie Mae Black Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Nellie Mae Black of Columbia, South Carolina, who passed away on April 12, 2025, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Woodrow W. Atkinson and Annie Marie Herrington; her brother Jack Atkinson; her daughter Janet Lee Pierson; her grandson Timothy Justin Downs; and her great grandchild Stephen Brice Downs.

She is survived by: her children, Anna Pierson Downs, Ralph Sidney Pierson, III (Carla), David Woodrow Pierson and Pamela Lynn Sloan (Andy); her grandchildren, Lori Anna McArver (Phillip), Elizabeth Thomas Downs (Beth), Amanda Lynn Pierson and Hunner Travis Mancil; and her great grandchildren, Aubrey Hope Downs, Emsley Carter McArver and Elsie Elizabeth Downs (Ella).

Visitation was held on Friday, April 18th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Temples-Halloran Funeral Home (5400 Bush River Rd, Columbia, SC 29212). A funeral service was held on Friday, April 18th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Temples-Halloran Funeral Home Chapel (5400 Bush River Rd, Columbia, SC 29212).
